Definition

Gastric cancer affects the stomach (the organ that collects ingested food and contributes to its digestion). In most cases, it originates from the cells responsible for the production of mucus that cover the internal surface of the organ. In Western countries, the incidence of stomach cancer is continuously decreasing, but nevertheless it still represents one of the most common causes of death from cancer.

Further indications

Stomach cancer, especially in the early stages, is often accompanied by mild and nuanced symptoms (in addition to the symptoms mentioned above, we recall the difficulty in eating large quantities of food, species of meat and loss of desire for smoking). The symptoms, generally of a digestive nature, are common to various gastric affections, but it is not uncommon to feel a sense of general malaise without experiencing particular digestive problems. Symptoms such as heartburn that does not resolve with anti-gastric acidity, blood in the vomit or in the faeces (which have a tarry appearance) must be evaluated urgently by a specialist.
