Mechanism of action LAMISIL ® Terbinafine

LAMISIL ®, a drug based on Terbinafine, the active ingredient usually used orally, is a medicinal specialty useful during superficial fungal infections of the skin and skin appendages supported by dermatophytes, yeasts and fungi.

Permeated the cellular membranes of these pathogenic species, Terbinafine is able to inhibit the enzyme squalene-epoxidase, thus reducing the production of ergosterol, a key element of the cellular structure, and at the same time favoring the accumulation of intermediate metabolites able to interfere with normal cellular activities.

All this takes the form of a fungistatic and sometimes fungicidal action that guarantees immediate control of the symptoms.

Topical use of the product is also able to minimize the side effects of systemic therapy.
