Related articles: Laryngitis

Definition

Laryngitis is the inflammation of the larynx and vocal cords contained within it, due to infections, irritations (gas swallows, smoke, chemicals, alcohol abuse, etc.) or excessive use of the voice. Because of the inflammatory process and the consequent swelling, the strings lose the ability to vibrate, making the voice hoarse or even imperceptible. Another typical symptom of laryngitis is the shrill and difficult breathing.
