Viper bite: what to do to avoid it

Vipers can be found both in the mountains and on the plains; some elementary rules of prudence can be adopted to prevent them from biting us.

When hiking, it is advisable to wear high ankle boots, thick socks and long trousers. To avoid being attacked by a viper, avoid moving stones, leaves or dry branches with your bare hands. A precaution to minimize the danger is to walk along the paths making noise and striking the surrounding ground with a long stick (the vipers are sensitive to movements and vibrations).

When you find yourself in front of a viper, avoid absolutely trying to crush it with your feet and, if you are forced to hit it, use stones or sticks aiming at your head, but keeping at a safe distance of at least a meter .
