Indications EPIDUO ® Benzoyl peroxide + Adapalene

EPIDUO® is indicated in the treatment of Acne vulgaris characterized by comedones, papules and pustules both inflamed and not inflamed.

Mechanism of action EPIDUO ® Benzoyl peroxide + Adapalene

EPIDUO® is a drug that combines two active antiacne ingredients generally used as monotherapy whose association, however, is clinically effective and pharmacologically safe.

More precisely, the Adapalene, as a synthetic retinoid is able, once applied topically, to interact with specific cellular receptors, reprogramming the gene expression and favoring a normalization of the stratum corneum thus avoiding the formation of microcomedones, the perfect medium of growth of Proprionibacterium acnes.

The activity of Adapalene is associated with the antiseptic and bacteriostatic activity of benzoyl peroxide, capable of limiting bacterial proliferation, thus reducing the inflammatory stimulus caused by these bacteria and responsible for the inflammatory evolution of the lesion.

Both active ingredients also perform a modest exfoliating and sebostatic action, useful for restoring the correct skin and epidermal balance.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

SEBOSTATIC ACTION OF ADAPALENE

J Dermatol Sci. 2013 Jun; 70 (3): 204-10. doi: 10.1016 / j.jdermsci.2013.02.003. Epub 2013 Feb 14.

Work that shows how Adapalene can inhibit sebum accumulation by suppressing triglyceride production and reducing cell differentiation in sebaceous cells.

Everything seems to be accomplished through the control of gene expression.

ADAPALENE / BENZOYL PEROXIDE AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE PATIENT WITH ACNE

J Drugs Dermatol. 2012 Jun; 11 (6): 714-22.

Study demonstrating that the association between Benzoyl Peroxide and Adapalene can significantly improve the quality of life of the patient suffering from Acne vulgaris, reducing the phlogistic extent of skin lesions.
