Viagra

Viagra is the trade name of a very popular and renowned drug in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (also called, incorrectly, impotence). Its active ingredient, Sildenafil, determines the relaxation of the smooth muscles of the cavernous bodies of the penis, guaranteeing a more consistent and lasting erection. Viagra is therefore useful in all those cases where there is a proven inability to achieve or maintain a suitable erection to allow satisfactory sexual activity.

Viagra comes in the form of blue, diamond-shaped tablets with rounded tips, which may contain the active ingredient in more or less extensive dosages (25, 50 or 100 mg). In order for the drug to take effect, the individual must be sexually stimulated; in the absence of excitation, viagra, at the recommended dosages, is therefore action-free. For the same reason it cannot be considered an aphrodisiac, since, fundamentally, it does not increase sexual desire, but limits itself to enhancing the physiological mechanism of erection if this has already been triggered by an erotic stimulus.

The famous blue pills should be taken at the time of need, at dosages ranging from 25 to 100 mg, one hour before sexual activity; the effect sought appears within 30-60 minutes of intake and remains active for about four hours. If taken at the same time as a meal, Viagra can have its stimulating effect with some delay. In any case, it is recommended not to exceed the recommended intake doses; the product should not be administered more than once a day.

An intake above the recommended limits causes prolonged erections or cases of priapism (painful erections of more than 4-6 hours), with a risk of permanent damage to the erectile tissues and consequent irretrievable loss of sexual abilities. For this reason, should this occur, it is good to leave any kind of taboo at home and run to a doctor.

In Italy, viagra, in class C, is sold on presentation of a non-repeatable prescription. This, to preserve the health of patients, since the drug can be very dangerous for certain categories of subjects. Under no circumstances should it be considered a recreational drug, it should not be taken together with alcohol or drugs and in the absence of a real and well documented problem of erectile dysfunction.

For no reason should the viagra be purchased on the internet or via channels other than the pharmacy; first of all there is no guarantee on the actual concentration of the active principle but, above all, the certainties on the safety of the product and, very often, on one's physical fitness to treat are lacking.

Side effects

The most common side effects associated with the use of the drug include headaches, facial flushing, hot flushes, dizziness, visual problems such as blurred vision, bluish vision and sensitivity to light, nasal congestion, stomach upset.

To avoid side effects of any kind, a preliminary medical consultation is strongly recommended.

Viagra must not be used in combination with nitrates (medicines used to treat angina) because it could cause sensitive drops in blood pressure, to the point of causing a state of shock and sometimes even death.

The products indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, including sildenafil, should not be used in subjects for whom sexual activity is not recommended (eg patients with serious cardiovascular disorders, such as unstable angina or severe heart failure). It is also not recommended for people who have had vision loss due to insufficient blood flow to the optic nerve (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy - NAION).

Viagra is considered a safe drug, provided it is properly prescribed. In fact, several cases of deaths have been documented following the use of the drug by subjects with a high cardiovascular risk index. It is not clear whether these deaths are attributable to the viagra itself or to the effort made during the sexual act.
