Scarlet red skin rash - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

Scarlet red (bright) rash typical of an infectious disease known as scarlet fever. This rash appears with small red spots, usually located on the neck and upper part of the chest (perceptible to the touch as fine sandpaper), which soon extend to many other parts of the body. The face can thus become very red, although the skin areas around the eyes, lips and nose are usually spared. If you press on the areas affected by the rash associated with scarlet fever, they typically become white leaving the imprint of the hand for a few moments.

The tongue may become pale but covered with red spots (strawberry tongue). After a few days the tongue may appear all red (raspberry tongue).
