The joke

The joke is the fundamental with which the game is started; it can be carried out from below, from the top floating, or from above in jump.

THE BATTLE FROM THE LOW

The Italian Volleyball Federation, on the advice of the technicians of the national youth teams, has adopted the joke from the bottom for the student championships, in order to favor the game actions.

Even if the bottom line is easier to learn, not having the characteristics of offensiveness, it must be abandoned as soon as you are able to perform the most insidious services.

Starting position

front in the direction of launch

bust slightly tilted forward

body weight on the advanced leg (the one opposite to the arm that hits the ball)

legs comfortably spread in the sagittal plane.

ball held with the hand that does not beat

The bar is executed by slightly detaching the ball from the left hand (for right-handed people), after which the ball is struck with the carpus of the hand and with the arm completely extended (all after having completed a pendular movement of the back-forward type -high).

If the ball is hit more inferiorly, the trajectory will be higher (parabola type), vice versa if it is hit in the posterior part, the trajectory will be more tense and grazing to the net.

KEY POINTS FOR THE BEST SUCCESS OF BATTING FROM THE BOTTOM

Preparation

1-Legs slightly spread

2-Body weight well distributed on both feet

3-Shoulders towards the net

4-Ball at waist height or lower

5-Ball in front of the body

6-Open hand

7-Eye on the ball

execution

1-Oscillation of the arm backwards

2-The weight of the body moved on the back foot

3-Swing arm forward

4-Move the weight of the body on the front foot

5-Contact the ball with the carp of the open hand

6 - Contact with the ball must occur at waist level

7 - Drop the hand holding the ball

8-Hit the ball in its back and below the center

9- Focus on the ball and the target

continuation

1-The swing of the hand continues over the height of the shoulder

2-The weight of the body is shifted to the front weight

3-Move into the playing field

THE BEAT FROM THE HIGH

The joke from above "travels" through the air in an unstable and sometimes unpredictable way; the higher the speed, the greater its instability.

The most interesting aspect of the floating ledge is represented by the so-called dead leaf effect, which is due to the fact that the ball, being an elastic body, changes its parabola and its trajectory in unpredictable conditions.

Technical data sheet of the floating stop

Correct starting position:

erect bust

body weight on the right leg, which must be set back

ball held with the left hand in front of the body

right shoulder back

right arm loaded in the correct position

feet facing the point where you want to direct the ball

distance between the feet = feet a little less distant from each other than the width of the shoulders.

Stroke execution: two phases

1. Self-raising of the ball. The ball must reach a height that allows the batsman to hit it in the so-called "dead spot" as high as possible. If the throw is slightly forward, the measure will be tense, if instead it is more backward, the resulting dish will be higher.

2. Shot on the ball. The weight of the body moves on the left advanced foot; the left arm flexes and lowers forward; the right shoulder advances until it reaches the left shoulder; the right arm stretches quickly looking for the ball; the effective blow occurs with an open and flat hand.

Preparation

1-Feet slightly apart

2-Well distributed body weight

3-Shoulders facing the net

4-Bring forward the foot opposite to the beating arm

5-Open hand

6-Look on the ball

execution

1-Throw the ball in front of the shoulder of the beating arm

2-The ball must turn slightly or not at all

3-Throw the ball with one hand

4-Throw the ball close to the body

5-Oscillation of the arm backwards with the elbow up

6-Hand near the ear

7-Strike the ball with the carpus of the hand

8-Extend the arm to the contact

9-Follow the ball to the touch

10-Move the weight of the body forward

continuation

1-Continue to transmit the weight of the body forward

2-The arms slowly descend downwards

3-Move into the playing field

BEATEN FROM ABOVE TO JUMP

The jump from above in jump is similar to the attack, the only difference is the distance from the net and consequently also the trajectory impressed to the ball. It is a power stroke, so it is often used in the top league series.
