Candida ovules

What are

The eggs for candida are particular medicinal products, formulated with active ingredients useful to counteract the vaginal fungal infection sustained by yeasts of the genus Candida . Although the species belonging to this genus are different, the one most commonly implicated in vaginal infections is undoubtedly Candida albicans .

The eggs for the candida can be formulated both with active principles with antifungal activity (or antifungal, if you prefer), and with active ingredients able to exert an antifungal treatment.

Candida ova based on antifungal active ingredients should only be taken if prescribed by the doctor or by the gynecologist, since their use should only be done in cases of real need in which there is the certainty of the presence of fungal infection.

The improper use of antifungal drugs, in fact, similarly to what happens for antibiotic drugs, can favor the appearance of Candida strains resistant to these same active ingredients.

Active principles

Active Ingredients contained in Candida Ovules

As mentioned, the active ingredients contained in the eggs for candida can be real antifungals, or substances able to assist the antifungal treatment.

Antifungals

Antifungals that are part of the formulation of candida eggs can be used either alone or in combination with other active ingredients. However, among the most known and employed active ingredients we find the azole-type antifungals, among which we recall:

  • Clotrimazole (Gynocanesten®, Meclon®);
  • Fenticonazole (Lomexin®);
  • Econazole (Ecorex®)
  • Miconazole (Miconal®).

Adjuvants in antifungal therapy

In addition to eggs containing real drugs, there are candida eggs made with active ingredients that can prevent infection and / or can help with the antifungal treatment mentioned above. In detail, these active ingredients can be:

  • Lactic ferments, useful for rebalancing the normal vaginal bacterial flora;
  • Plant extracts, such as, for example, the extract of colored Pseudowintera, a plant that seems to be able to exercise both a stimulating action on the immune system and an interesting antifungal activity.

Mode of use

How and for how long should Candida Ovules be used?

The application of the vaginal egg is not an excessively complicated procedure, although for several women it can be an unpleasant operation.

However, to apply the egg you first need to wash your hands thoroughly. Then the egg is inserted deep into the vagina, preferably in a supine position and in the evening before going to bed. This is because, the extended position that is assumed during the night rest is able to favor the permanence of the drug within the vaginal canal, thus promoting its therapeutic action.

The duration of treatment (usually 2.3 or 5 days) and the frequency of administration (every day, or every 2-3 days) depends substantially on the type of active ingredient used and its concentration within the egg. For this reason, it is recommended to ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice and to read carefully the package insert of the medicinal product to be used.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Can Candida Ovules Be Used During Pregnancy And Lactation?

The possibility of using or not using the eggs for candida during pregnancy and lactation depends on various factors, such as, for example, the type of active ingredient used and the stage of gestation in which the woman is found.

However, in general, the use of ova for candida by pregnant women can only and exclusively take place in case of actual need and only under the strict control of the doctor.

Side effects

The side effects that may arise following the use of the eggs for candida vary depending on the active ingredient used, its concentration and the sensitivity of each patient to treatment.

However, among the main side effects that could occur, there is redness, burning and vaginal irritation.

Contraindications

Similarly to what happens for the side effects, also the contraindications to the use of the eggs for the candida can vary depending on the type and concentration of the active ingredients present in the pharmaceutical formulation.

In any case, the use of eggs for candida is always contraindicated in case of known hypersensitivity to any substance (active ingredient or excipient) contained therein.
