Indications OROTRE ® - Calcium + Colecalciferol
OROTRE ® is useful in the prevention of diseases associated with calcium and vitamin D deficiency, which are frequent especially in elderly patients and in patients suffering from osteoporosis.
Mechanism of action OROTRE ® - Calcium + Colecalciferol
Cholecalciferol and calcium are the main protagonists, together with hormonal factors such as calcitonin and paratoromone, of bone and calcium metabolism.
Cholecalciferol, in fact, as a precursor of 1, 25 dihydro cholecalciferol or active vitamin D, can significantly modulate the metabolism of this mineral by promoting intestinal absorption by enterocytes and renal reabsorption by tubular cells.
Furthermore the particular biological activity of this vitamin, able to selectively modulate gene expression, allows to induce the differentiation of osteoblastic cells, thus supporting the phenomenon of neodeposition and bone remineralization.
The simultaneous intake of calcium therefore makes it possible to further accentuate the aforementioned biological effects.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
1. SUPPLEMENTATION WITH CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D3 AND FALLS
Study demonstrating how supplementation with calcium and vitamin D can reduce falls that require medical intervention in elderly patients. This effect could be the result of the activity of the aforementioned elements on bone and muscle metabolism.
2. CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D3 IN POST-TRANSPLANT PHASES
The administration even at low doses of vitamin D3 and calcium has proved useful in preserving the femur, hips and lumbar vertebrae from demineralization that is often observed following renal transplant operations.
3. CALCIUM / VITAMIN D3 AND LIPOPROTEIC METABOLISM
Work that shows how supplementation with calcium and vitamin D3, even through fortified foods such as milk, had no negative or positive effects on the balance of blood lipoproteins and blood pressure values.
Method of use and dosage
OROTRE ®
Tablets of 500 mg calcium (equivalent to 1250 mg of calcium carbonate) and 400 IU of cholecalciferol:
It is advisable to take one tablet in the morning and one evening to be roasted in the mouth or in a glass of water.
Treatment should be performed for short periods and under medical supervision.
Warnings OROTRE ® - Calcium + Colecalciferol
The intake of OROTRE ® should be preceded by a medical examination to ascertain the prescriptive appropriateness and the possible presence of conditions incompatible with this therapy such as the presence of renal pathologies or hypercalcaemia.
Monitoring of these parameters should be extended even throughout the therapeutic process.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Administration of vitamin D3 during pregnancy should be under strict medical supervision to avoid unpleasant side effects to the health of the fetus.
The use of OROTRE ® is instead contraindicated during the breastfeeding period, given the ability of cholecalciferol to permeate the breast filter, concentrating in breast milk.
Interactions
Concomitant intake of antiepileptics and anticonvulsants could lead to a reduction in the therapeutic effects of vitamin D3, thus requiring an adjustment of the dosage of OROTRE ® used.
On the contrary, the simultaneous digital intake could contribute with hypercalcaemia to the appearance of alterations and disturbances of the heart rhythm, exposing the patient to serious cardiac pathologies.
Contraindications OROTRE ® - Calcium + Colecalciferol
OROTRE ® is indicated in cases of hypercalcemia, renal failure, nephrolithiasis and hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of its excipients.
Undesirable effects - Side effects
Therapy with OROTRE ® has proved to be particularly safe and has no noteworthy side effects if performed according to the correct medical indications.
Constipation, nausea, abdominal epigastric pain and diarrhea are in fact the most frequently observed side effects and are limited exclusively to the period of taking the drug.
However, the abuse of OROTRE ® may be responsible for hypercalcaemia and associated complications.
Note
OROTRE ® is a drug that can be sold under prescription
