Verga d'Oro

What is the Golden Rod

The golden rod ( Solidago virgaurea ) is a herbaceous plant - Fam. Asteraceae - characterized by a long stem, embellished, in the upper parts, by flowers of an intense yellow color. Also known as a golden wand, the golden rod grows wild in the meadows, hills and mountains of the Alps and the Apennines; over 2000 meters you meet the alpestris subspecies, smaller in size.

In addition to the virgaurea, the term goldenrod is common to other species of Solidago, such as S. serotina Ait. (= S. gigantea Willd) and S. canadensis L. (Canadian golden rod). The phytotherapeutic indications are similar.

Property

Active principles

The drug, consisting of flowering tops, contains triterpene saponins, flavonoids, soluble polysaccharides, phenolic acids, diterpenes, tannins and essential oil.

Natural Diuretic

The goldenrod is known for its diuretic, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. It is therefore indicated in inflammatory states of the lower urinary tract (cystitis, urethritis) and in the presence of kidney stones (it hinders its formation).

The goldenrod is a typical ingredient of natural supplements with a draining action, intended for the treatment of water retention and cellulite blemishes. Its diuretic and purifying action makes it useful in the presence of gout and hyperuricemia.

To maximize the elimination of metabolic waste, the gold bull should be associated with a diet rich in liquids and foods of vegetable origin (due to their potassium and magnesium content).

Side effects

No relevant side effects are known, common instead to synthetic diuretics and in particular to lasix ® (furosemide). A reckless use can still be harmful, especially when combined with diuretic drugs.
