Magnesium carbonate and magnesium bicarbonate are compounds obtained from magnesium hydroxide, used by the food industry as acidity regulators, additive support, anti-caking agents and raising agents.

They can be contained in different products, such as in powdered yeast.

At present, no negative side effects on human health are known.

At high concentrations they have a laxative effect.
