Mechanism of action OPTREX ® Distilled water of Hamamelis Virginiana

OPTREX ® is a drug obtained from the Hamamelis Virginiana, more commonly known as Witch Hazel, a large-sized plant whose leaves and bark can extract phytotherapeutic complexes rich in tannins and therefore equipped with:

  • decongestant properties, important in avoiding edema and swelling associated with phlogistic events;
  • astringent;
  • healing;
  • hemostats.

Following the ocular application the aforementioned properties have proved to be clinically important in cases of redness and ocular congestion, excessive tearing or irritation of the conjunctiva, eyelid and tear ducts.
