Indications DOVOBET ® Calcipotriol + Betamethasone

DOVOBET ® is indicated in the treatment of psoriasis of the scalp in adults and of mild to moderate plaque psoriasis common also in other areas of the body.

Mechanism of action DOVOBET ® Calcipotriol + Betamethasone

Calcipotriol and Betamethasone, active ingredients of DOVOBET ®, are drugs with different biological activities but both useful in the management and treatment of psoriasis.

In fact, while Betamethasone, a synthetic corticosteroid, is able to control the phlogistic evolution of the disease, reducing the production of inflammatory mediators and the recall of cellular elements with inflammatory power, the Calcipotriol, a synthetic analogue of vitamin D3, is able to permeate the cellular membranes of keratinocytes, reprogramming the gene expression and thus determining a block of the proliferative processes, mediated also by the induction of the apoptotic event, and a resumption of the differentiation process.

The combination of these two active ingredients has proved particularly effective in the treatment of psoriasis, significantly improving the quality of life of affected patients, and generally safe given the low systemic absorption resulting from the topical use of the medicine.

J Dermatolog Treat. 2007; 18 (6): 361-5.

Study that tests the effectiveness of two drugs widely used in the treatment of psoriasis, including DOVOBET ®, demonstrating the greatest efficacy of the latter, even with shorter treatment times, given the association of Calcipotriol with Betamethasone.
