Nasal Voice - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

The rhinolalia is a particular alteration of the timbre of the voice, which is nasal.

This condition can occur in the case of anatomical abnormalities, inflammation, paralysis, trauma or tumors in the palate, head or neck. These conditions, in fact, modify the resonance of the voice.

Rhinolalia can be a consequence of a congenitally short palate or a broad nasopharynx. Other causes of nasal voice include cleft palate, tonsil enlargement, septal deviation, nasopharyngeal tumors, adenoid hypertrophy and nasal cavity obstruction (colds, rhinitis, nasal polyps, etc.).
