Indications NASONEX ® Mometasone

NASONEX ® is indicated in the prevention and treatment of recurrent symptoms in seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis of adults and pediatric patients.

Action mechanism NASONEX ® Mometasone

Mometasone, the active ingredient of NASONEX ®, is a high activity corticosteroid commonly used in the clinical environment due to its high efficacy of action at the topical-local level and the low systemic absorption which generally minimizes the risk of systemic adverse reactions.

Its biological activity, similar to those of all other corticosteroids, is basically carried out by inducing the expression of genes able to counteract the cascade of molecular events that leads to the formation of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins, leukotrienes and thromboxanes.

Scientific evidence has also shown that the anti-inflammatory action of Mometasone is supplemented by the potentially antiallergic action, observed by assessing the reduced recruitment of eosinophils and neutrophils in place.

All of this takes place both with the decongestion of the nasal mucosa, and therefore with the improvement of the respiratory capacity, and with the reduction of the broad symptomatic concentration that occurs during both seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

THE MOMETHASONE IN THE NOCTURAL APNEA

Am J Rhinol Allergy. 2013 Jul-Aug; 27 (4): e113-6. doi: 10.2500 / ajra.2013.27.3921.

Acar M, Cingi C, Sakallioglu O, San T, Fatih Yimenicioglu M, Bal C.

An interesting study that demonstrates that treatment with Mometasone in patients with allergic rhinitis can significantly improve obstructive sleep apnea, resulting in a significant increase in the quality of life of these patients.

BRONCODILATORY EFFECT OF MOMETHASONE AND FORMOTEROL

Pediatr Pulmonol. 2013 Sep 9. doi: 10.1002 / ppul.22850. [Epub ahead of print]

Berger WE, Bensch GW, Weinstein SF, Skoner DP, Prenner BM, Shekar T, Nolte H, Teper AA.

Work carried out on small patients between the ages of 5 and 11 who demonstrate that inhaling Mometasone and Formoterol can guarantee significant bronchodilation, so as to improve respiratory capacity.

COMPARATIVE NASAL DECONGESTANTS

Allergy Asthma Proc. 2013 Sep 27. [Epub ahead of print]

Clinical trial testing the preference of patients suffering from perennial allergic rhinitis towards local therapies based on Mometasone or Ciclesonide, preferring the latter for the quicker and clearer improvement of the complained symptomatology.

Method of use and dosage

NASONEX ®

Mometasone furoate 50 microgr nasal spray for delivery.

Topical therapy with NASONEX ® should be established by the doctor based on the patient's general health condition and the severity of his / her clinical picture.

In general, in the treatment of the symptoms of allergic rhinitis in adults, 2 applications per nostril are recommended once a day in the initial phase, to halve the dosage in the subsequent maintenance phase.

The dosage for the treatment of symptoms in patients under 12 years of age and in the prophylaxis of nasal polyps is different.

Warnings NASONEX ® Mometasone

Given the presence of a corticosteroid as an active ingredient of NASONEX ®, medical supervision is recommended during the entire drug treatment.

For the same reason, patients suffering from bacterial, viral, tubercular or fungal infections should avoid using NASONEX ® due to the potential local immunodepressive effects induced by the product, such as to aggravate the present clinical picture or significantly delay therapeutic resolution.

Prolonged use of NASONEX ®, also due to the presence of benzalkonium chloride as an excipient, could increase the risk of local hypersensitivity adverse reactions.

Fortunately, systemic side effects linked to the presence of Mometasone are rarer.

It is recommended to avoid prolonged use of the product and contact your doctor immediately following the appearance of unwanted reactions.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

NASONEX ® is contraindicated during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding, given the lack of studies able to fully characterize the safety profile of Mometasone for fetal and infant health.

Interactions

The very low systemic absorption that the Mometasone present in NASONEX ® meets, significantly reduces the risk of clinically relevant drug interactions.

Contraindications NASONEX ® Mometasone

The use of NASONEX ® is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of its excipients, in patients suffering from local infections and in patients undergoing surgery.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of NASONEX ®, especially when continued for a long time, could determine the appearance of local adverse reactions such as: respiratory tract infections, epistaxis, headache, pharyngitis, nasal burning and nasal ulceration.

Fortunately, the systemic side effects that are worthy of note are rarer.

Note

NASONEX ® is a prescription-only drug
