Indications NUROFEN ® Ibuprofen

NUROFEN ® is indicated in the treatment of inflammatory and painful conditions related to rheumatic, osteo-articular, traumatic and other diseases.

Given the antipyretic action, NUROFEN ® can be used as an adjuvant in the symptomatic treatment of febrile and flu states.

Mechanism of action NUROFEN ® Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen, an active ingredient of synthetic origin belonging to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory category, owes its great therapeutic success to the efficacy / safety ratio greater than that of other drugs belonging to the same category.

Ibuprofen, taken orally, is rapidly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal mucosa, especially when on an empty stomach, promptly reaching the maximum plasma concentrations and distributing itself, linked to plasma proteins, to the tissues involved in the inflammatory process.

Here it is able to inhibit cyclooxygenases, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins with inflammatory activity, and instead favoring the production of lipoxins, molecules endowed with inhibitory activity with respect to recall and leukocyte adhesion.

The anti-inflammatory action is also accompanied by the analgesic and antipyretic action, which makes it possible to significantly widen the therapeutic indications provided for NUROFEN ®, thus guaranteeing an effective therapeutic action for various pathological states.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. ADDRESS OF IBUPROFENE AND CANCER

Breast Cancer Res. 2012 Jan 31; 14 (1): R20. [Epub ahead of print]

Important study that demonstrates the ability of some active ingredients derived from ibuprofen to counteract tumor proliferation, in particular of mammary carcinomatous cells, modulating their gene expression and reducing the proliferative rate.

2. IBUPROFENE AND MEDICAL ABORTION

Fertil Steril. 2012 Mar; 97 (3): 612-5. Epub 2012 Jan 20.

Study that demonstrates how the preventive administration of ibuprofen can reduce pain in women subjected to medical abortion, without interfering in the abortifacient action of the active ingredients used.

3. IBUPROFENE AND POSTOPERATIVE PAIN

J Endod. 2011 Dec; 37 (12): 1608-12. Epub 2011 Oct 1.

Clinical trial demonstrating that ibuprofen intake may be as effective as ibuprofen / paracetamol in reducing postoperative pain in endodontic practices necessary for the treatment of dental pulp necrosis.

Method of use and dosage

NUROFEN ®

200-400 mg ibuprofen-coated tablets;

Granulated for oral solution of 20 mg of ibuprofen.

The dosage of ibuprofen, which can be used in adults, can vary significantly depending on the patient's physiopathological features and the severity of his clinical picture.

In any case, it is advisable to start therapy with the minimum effective dose, capable of guaranteeing a therapeutic effect, adjusting the dose at a later date, up to a maximum dose of 1200-1800 mg daily.

Precautions in the formulation of the dosage must necessarily be provided for elderly patients or those suffering from kidney diseases.

Warnings NUROFEN ® Ibuprofen

Although NUROFEN ® is a salable drug without a prescription, the patient should consult his doctor before taking this medicine.

In particular, patients suffering from renal, hepatic, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular diseases should require constant medical supervision and periodic monitoring of blood concentrations of some parameters indicative of the conditions of their health status.

An adjustment of the dosage normally used is necessary for elderly patients or those suffering from renal insufficiency, given the risk of a potential accumulation of ibuprofen.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

We strongly advise against taking NUROFEN ® during pregnancy, given the importance of prostaglandins in ensuring correct fetal development. It is well known that excessive inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis can determine the onset of fetal malformations and increase the number of abortions.

Side effects may also affect the parturient, given the increased risk of bleeding and the reduction in the frequency and intensity of uterine contractions.

This contraindication also extends to the subsequent breastfeeding phase, despite the fact that ibuprofen is among the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the one able to concentrate less in breast milk.

Interactions

Although the potential pharmacological interactions expected for ibuprofen are multiple, only a few are clinically relevant.

Particular attention, both for the appearance of possible side effects and for the impairment of the normal therapeutic efficacy, must be reserved to the concomitant administration of ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II antagonists, analgesics, antibiotics, methotrexate, oral anticoagulants, antidepressants, serotonin reuptake inhibitors, corticosteroids and other NSAIDs.

Contraindications NUROFEN ® Ibuprofen

Taking NUROFEN ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or to one of its excipients, hypersensitive to acetylsalicylic acid and other analgesics, suffering from asthma, nasal polyposis, liver failure, renal to cardiac, intestinal bleeding, ulcerative colitis or previous history for the same diseases.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Careful post-marketing monitoring and a thriving scientific literature support the relative safety of ibuprofen when given according to appropriate medical indications.

Despite the side effects may affect various districts, from the nervous one with headache, depression and insomnia to the cutaneous one with rash, hives and dermatitis, adverse reactions are more frequently observed in gastrointestinal tract, with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, colitis, diarrhea, constipation and in severe cases gastritis and peptic ulcers.

It is also useful to recall the results of some epidemiological studies that correlate prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with cardio-vascular, renal and hepatic diseases.

Note

NUROFEN ® can be sold without medical prescription.
