Indications RINELON ® Mometasone

RINELON ® is normally used in the prophylaxis and symptomatic treatment of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis in both adults and pediatric patients.

The same drug is also used in the prevention of the adult patient's nasal pulp.

Mechanism of action RINELON ® Mometasone

RINELON ® is a medicinal product based on Mometasone, an active ingredient belonging to the category of corticosteroids particularly active for topical use.

In fact, topically applied it acts at the local level, inhibiting a series of molecular events, involved in the production and secretion of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes.

More precisely, Mometasone would be able to induce the expression of the enzyme Lipocortin A, a protein capable of inhibiting phospholipase A2 involved in the enzymatic transformation of various substrates into inflammatory mediators.

All this basically translates into a reduction in the inflammatory environment, in a better control of the cytokine secretion of inflammation, in a reduction of the recruitment of inflammatory elements and therefore in a clear improvement of the associated symptomatology.

The efficacy of RINELON ® therapy is further supported by the advantageous pharmacokinetic properties of Mometasone, which, by limiting systemic absorption, also reduce the potential systemic side effects of therapy.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

MOMETHASONE IN THE TREATMENT OF PSORIASIS

Adv Ther. 2013 May; 30 (5): 503-16. doi: 10.1007 / s12325-013-0033-4. Epub 2013 May 25.

Berg M, Svensson A, Faergemann J.

Study that tests a new formulation for Mometasone useful for Psoriasis patients.

The data seem as encouraging, showing good therapeutic success and an excellent tolerability profile.

Pharm Dev Technol. 2013 Jul 22. [Epub ahead of print]

Salgado A, Raposo S, Marto J, Silva AN, Simões S, Ribeiro HM.

MURETASONE FUROATO AND VASCULAR PARAMETERS IN ALLERGIC PATIENTS

Coll Antropol. 2013 Mar; 37 (1): 127-30.

Kujundzić M, Babarović E, Petković M, Pavlović-Ruzić I, Coklo M, Zamolo G.

Work that shows how the treatment with Mometasone for 15 days, can determine a significant reduction of vascular density and the formation of new vessels in the nasal mucosa, in allergic patients, thus improving the symptomatology.

Method of use and dosage

RINELON ®

Mometasone furoate 50 microgr nasal spray for delivery.

The therapy with RINELON ® should be established, in doses and timing of intake, by your doctor based on the present clinical picture.

However the dosage suggested in adults suffering from allergic rhinitis is that of 2 applications per nostril once a day in the initial phase of the treatment, to then pass to a daily application per nostril, in the following maintenance phase.

Different dosages are evidently necessary in patients aged between 5 and 11 years and in patients suffering from nasal polyposis.

Warnings RINELON ® Mometasone

The use of RINELON ® should be carefully supervised by your doctor, given the presence of a corticosteroid as an active ingredient and of benzalkonium chloride as an excipient.

In fact, prolonged use of these products could lead to the appearance of local adverse reactions from clinically relevant hypersensitivity, such as to require the immediate suspension of treatment.

Given the presence of Mometasone, RINELON ® should be used with particular caution or not administered precisely in patients suffering from local infections, traumas or undergoing surgery.

Although the incidence of systemic adverse reactions is particularly rare, the doctor should periodically supervise the patient's overall health status.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The aforementioned contraindications to the use of RINELON ® obviously extend also to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding, given the absence of studies able to characterize the safety profile of Mometasone for fetal and infant health.

Interactions

The very low systemic absorption that the Mometasone in RINELON ® encounters, significantly reduces the risk of clinically relevant drug interactions.

Contraindications RINELON ® Mometasone

The use of RINELON ® is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of its excipients, in patients suffering from local infections and in patients undergoing surgery.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

RINELON ® therapy, especially when it lasts over a long period of time, could lead to the appearance of local adverse reactions such as: respiratory tract infections, epistaxis, headache, pharyngitis, nasal burning and nasal ulceration.

Fortunately, the systemic side effects that are worthy of note are rarer.

Note

RINELON ® is a prescription-only drug.
