SUSTANON ® - Testosterone propionate

SUSTANON ® is a testosterone propionate based drug

THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Androgens

Indications SUSTANON ® - Testosterone propionate

SUSTANON ® is used in hormone replacement therapy and in the treatment of clinical manifestations characterized by deficiency or absence of androgenic hormones such as castration, enucodism, impotence on an endocrine basis, male climacteric, testicular hypogonadism or secondary to pituitary disease.

Mechanism of action SUSTANON ® - Testosterone propionate

SUSTANON ® is a drug containing testosterone esters such as testosterone phenylpropionate and testosterone isocaproate, which give the medicine a more gradual absorption profile and a longer duration of action, estimated at around 4 weeks.

The particular pharmacokinetic properties of these testosterone esters significantly reduce the frequency of injections, generally limiting it to a single monthly.

Testosterone thus taken binds approximately 98% to plasma proteins, largely reaches the various tissues, where reduced to dehydrototosterone interacts with nuclear receptors activating the cell in an anabolic sense, but being in small part converted into inactive and estrogen metabolites.

More precisely this hormone is able to improve the complained symptomatology, restoring gonadotropin levels, also contributing to muscle growth, hemoglobin synthesis, increased hematocrit, deposition of new bone matrix thus preventing serious pathologies such as the osteoporosis, while preserving both erectile function and sexual desire.

However, some of its metabolites could cause unpleasant side effects such as acne, hirsutism, prostatic hypertrophy and acceleration of sexual maturation.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

TESTOSTERONE IN THE SURGICAL RESOLUTION OF THE HYPOSPADIA

Hypospadias is a pathological condition, generally congenital, characterized by an abnormal development of the urethra which often presents an off-site meatus. In this case, the surgical intervention, which is the only decisive therapeutic action, could be assisted by testosterone intake, which proved effective in improving the outcome of the intervention.

2. TESTOSTERONE AND OXIDATIVE STRESS

An extremely interesting study, conducted on rats, which demonstrates how the excessive intake of testosterone can subvert the beneficial effects of training on heart health, significantly reducing the antioxidant activity of some enzymes, thus increasing the oxidative damage induced by intense exercise .

3. THE ANTICONCEPTIONAL PROPERTIES OF THE TESTOSTERONE

Work that evaluates the effects of testosterone in male hormonal contraception. More precisely the inhibition of gonadotropin release induced by high blood concentrations of testosterone, seems in part reduced in the presence of overweight.

Method of use and dosage

SUSTANON ®

Injectable solutions for intramuscular use containing 30 mg of testosterone propionate, 60 mg of testosterone phenylpropionate, 60 mg of testosterone isocaproate and 100 mg of testosterone decanoate in 1 ml of peanut oil:

after a careful medical evaluation, generally therapeutic schemes should be followed characterized by single monthly administration, intramuscularly, given the particular pharmacokinetic properties of propionate testosterone.

Warnings SUSTANON ® - Testosterone propionate

As with any hormone replacement therapy, taking SUSTANON ® should be preceded by a careful medical examination in order to assess the prescriptive appropriateness and the possible presence of factors incompatible with this therapy.

In particular, patients suffering from hypertension, epilepsy, cardiovascular, hepatic, renal and metabolic pathologies should carefully evaluate with their doctor the cost / benefit ratio that would result from taking testosterone.

In case of opting for therapy, the doctor should subject the patient to periodic medical checks, useful for assessing the patient's psycho-physical health, and to stop the therapy following the appearance of the first side effects, including hypercalciuria and hypercalcemia.

The use in prepubera age should instead take place with particular attention, given the possible deleterious effects on bone growth and on the too rapid development of the male genital organs.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Given the ability of testosterone to cross the blood-forming barrier and induce fetal virilization, taking SUSTANON ® is severely contraindicated during pregnancy.

Interactions

Although currently no pharmacologically relevant interactions have emerged with inducers or inhibitors capable of significantly varying blood concentrations of testosterone and its metabolites, it should be remembered that some active ingredients, substrates of cytochromial enzymes, could alter the normal pharmacokinetic profile of this hormone.

Furthermore, the concomitant intake of anticoagulants could increase the risk of bleeding, so that patients receiving cortisone therapy are more prone to water retention and hypertension.

Among the metabolic effects of testosterone, that on glucose metabolism, able to improve insulin sensitivity, could determine a reduction in the need for hypoglycemic agents in diabetic patients.

Contraindications SUSTANON ® - Testosterone propionate

Testosterone intake is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of its excipients, breast cancer, estrogen-dependent neoplasms, cancer and prostatic hypertrophy, history of hepatocarcinoma, hypercalcaemia, nephrotic syndrome, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Testosterone hormone replacement therapy has often been associated with the appearance of side effects.

In light of the pharmacokinetic properties of this testosterone ester, it is important to consider that the side effects associated with the therapy could be prolonged for several weeks after suspension.

The use of androgens, especially when disproportionate as in the case of doping, could lead to: prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer, weight gain and water retention, hypertension and cardiovascular complications, hypercholesterolemia, acne, hirsutism, liver function changes, oligozoospermia and myalgia nonspecific.

Note

SUSTANON ® can be sold only under medical prescription.

SUSTANON ® is an anabolic agent, therefore its use, outside of medical prescriptions on pathological grounds, is prohibited in the race and out of the race.
