The broad intermediate (or deep) is one of the four heads that form the quadriceps muscle. It is placed between the vast lateral and the vast medial in depth with respect to the rectus femoris. It originates from the lateral lip of the line of the femur and from the upper three quarters of the anterior and lateral sides of the femur.
It is inserted into the patella with a tendon common to the other garments.
With its action and extends the leg.
It is innervated by the femoral nerve (L2, L4).
