Indications TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® Flurbiprofen

TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® is used in the treatment of inflammatory states, also associated with pain, of the oral cavity and pharyngeal tract.

Mechanism of action TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® Flurbiprofen

TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® is a medicine successfully used in the treatment of inflammatory and painful pathologies of the oro-pharyngeal tract, given the action performed mainly at the local level and the absence of a significant systemic absorption, often responsible for the side effects linked to the therapy with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

The active ingredient of TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® is flurbiprofen, an anti-inflammatory derived from phenylpropionic acid that shares the same mechanism of action with the analogues of its group, based on the enzymatic inhibition of cyclooxygenases, ie those enzymes involved, during injurious stimuli and pathogenic conditions, in the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes with marked pro-inflammatory activity.

The possibility of reducing the local quantity of these mediators consists in a reduction of the inflammatory insult and of the pain stimulus, which allows a clear improvement of the complained symptomatology.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. NEUROPROTECTIVE ACTION OF FLURBIPROPHEN

Neuropharmacology. 2010 Dec; 59 (7-8): 582-8. Epub 2010 Sep 8.

Experimental study that demonstrates how in cell and animal models, the administration of flurbiprofen can protect nerve cells from focal cerebral ischemia, reducing neuronal loss by controlling glutamate-induced excitotoxicity and supplemented by intracellular calcium overload.

2. THE FLURBIPROPHENE IN THE POST-OPERATIVE COURSE

Int J Med Sci. 2011 Mar 10; 8 (3): 216-21.

Very interesting work that shows how the addition of flurbiprofen to the already provided analgesic methods can significantly improve the post-operative course, even in the case of major surgery such as thoracotomy, reducing serum concentrations of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF alpha and inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein.

3. NEW METHODS OF RELEASE THE FLURBIPROPHENE

Acta Pol Pharm. 2011 Nov-Dec; 68 (6): 955-64.

Different research groups spread all over the world are working to devise new methods of administration of flurbiprofen, useful for improving the pharmacokinetic properties of the product, reducing potential side effects. In this study, the encouraging results obtained for flurbiprofen-based adhesive mucus patches intended primarily for dental use are reported.

Method of use and dosage

TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ®

250 mg flurbiprofen mouthwash per 100 ml of solution;

Solution for oral mucosa at 0.25% flurbiprofen.

In the event that the mouthwash is used, it would be preferable to carry out 2-3 rinses or gargles a day with 10 ml of mouthwash, equivalent to 25 mg of flurbiprofen, possibly diluted with water.

For the spray nebulizer it is recommended instead the application of 2 sprays 3 times a day on the gold-pharyngeal mucosa area affected by the inflammatory process.

Warnings TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® Flurbiprofen

The use of TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® should be understood as a symptomatic therapy of short duration and therefore prolonged until the symptomatology is remitted.

In the event that taking the medicine is ineffective it would be advisable to consult your doctor, who should evaluate the possibility of modifying the therapy in progress by carrying out further checks on the patient's health status.

The low quantities of flurbiprofen present in rinses or in the nebulized solutions provided for TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® allow to minimize the risk of potential side effects even after the accidental ingestion of the product.

If signs of irritation appear on the oro-pharyngeal mucosa, it would be advisable to immediately stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor.

TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® contains alcohol, therefore its use could lead to a positive doping test provided in different sports competitions.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The intake of TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ®, despite the low levels of documented systemic absorption, is contraindicated during pregnancy given the potential side effects of flurbiprofen and other NSAIDs in general, on correct embryonic and fetal development.

This contraindication also extends to the subsequent breastfeeding period, given the absence of valid pharmacokinetic studies able to characterize the flurbiprofen secretion profile in biological fluids including breast milk.

Interactions

The local use of flurbiprofen, as foreseen for treatments with TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ®, allows to minimize all possible interactions, making the use of this medicine as safe and predictable.

Contraindications TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® Flurbiprofen

The use of TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient, to its excipients and to structurally related molecules, in patients suffering from active or past history peptic ulcers.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The low systemic absorption that characterizes the use of TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ®, allows to minimize the incidence and severity of the various side effects commonly described in systemic therapies based on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

However, it is useful to remember that the disproportionate use of the product can determine the onset of irritative states in the directly affected mucosa.

The systemic therapy with flurbiprofen could instead determine the appearance of adverse reactions against the gastro-intestinal mucosa, the respiratory system, the integumentary system, the central nervous system and the liver and kidney.

Note

TANTUM ACTIV GOLA ® can be sold without medical prescription.
