Marking to a man means taking over a player from the opposing team.
The closer the opponent approaches our door (or the ball), the narrower the marking must be. If, on the other hand, the opponent is far from the ball, the marking will be wider, therefore less nagging.
Defensive diagonal: control of one's opponent and possibility of helping comrades.
Principles governing man marking in relation to the opponent
- be positioned between the opponent and the door
- have, under visual control, the opponent and the ball simultaneously.
Man marking system : team in which the defensive department applies the man marking system.
In the non-predetermined location it is preferred to adopt a wait-and-see tactic, thus reducing the spaces to the opponents.
