Oily skin: What it is

An impure skin with a greasy and shiny appearance and a dull complexion is defined as fat . To the touch, oily skin appears oily and rough: the irregularity in the texture is given by the presence of dilated pores, often accompanied by acneic lesions and / or old scars left by acne.

Oily skin is an extremely common blemish among adolescents, which often continues even into adulthood, giving rise to even serious pathological manifestations.

How to recognize it?

How to recognize Oily Skin?

Many people believe they have oily skin when, in reality, it is not. How to find out, therefore, what kind our skin is (without resorting to skin diagnostic tests)?

A simple test to unmask too fat skin is to press, for a few seconds, a clean make-up tissue or a fabric (silk or cotton) on the face, an area where the sebaceous glands become more numerous. If after removing it from the skin, the material has wet and greasy traces you can actually talk about oily skin.

However, it is important to remember that oily skin affects the entire face of those who suffer from it. If, on the other hand, the skin is oily only in certain areas of the face (such as the forehead, nose and chin, the so-called "T zone"), while the remaining areas (cheeks, cheekbones, etc.) are characterized by a particularly dry skin, then the ailment of which one suffers is not the proper oily skin but the mixed skin (for more information: Mixed Skin).

Remedies and advice

As we know, at the origin of oily skin we find an enhanced functionality of the sebaceous glands located in the deep dermis: it is the excess of sebum concentrated in the superficial layers of the epidermis that gives the skin a greasy, oily and unhealthy appearance. This condition, which is already problematic in itself, can even be worsened when an unbalanced diet is followed (both in terms of quantity and quality of food), some drugs are taken or detergents or other cosmetic products are used which are not suited to one's type. leather made.

To improve the appearance of an oily skin, avoiding worsening the condition, it is advisable to take advantage of some valuable advice, given below.

What should be done

  • Clean the skin gently . As you can easily guess, oily skin needs to be thoroughly cleansed. What, on the other hand, is not known to all is that to do so it is necessary to use only delicate detergents, in such a way as not to attack or irritate them unnecessarily, since doing so would result in counterproductive results.
  • Remove bacteria . If the skin, in addition to being oily, has pimples or acne, the most suitable advice is to use special detergents with bactericidal activity (azelaic acid or benzoyl peroxide).
  • Dilate (and close) the pores . In the presence of asphyxiated or particularly oily skin, once a week, it is advisable to dilate the pores by exploiting the action of steam or a jet of hot water, then apply an exfoliating product (glycolic acid, salicylic acid, derivatives of retinoic acid). After facial cleansing, the advice is to use a not overly aggressive tonic. Alternatively, we recommend using the natural action of cold water to close the pores. Avoid exposure to the sun for 12 hours after the treatment or, if you cannot resist, use a high protection sunscreen.
  • Exfoliate the skin . An oily and acneic skin requires periodic - but not excessive - exfoliating treatments, so as to smooth it giving it a new radiance. Exfoliants, be they physical or chemical, promote cellular turnover (renewal), while stimulating the synthesis of collagen and elastin in the dermis.
  • Natural remedies . The lotions based on essential oils are very suitable to improve the appearance of an oily skin: for this purpose, the essences of sage, lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, bergamot, cypress, tea tree, mint etc. they are very suitable for their strong disinfectant and astringent properties. However, it is recommended not to exceed the application of these products.
  • Purify and normalize sebum production . Given the characteristics of oily skin and the tendency to manifest blackheads and acne, the use of treatments with a purifying and sebum-normalizing action can be useful. For this purpose, clay facial masks are very effective (for more information: Clay Mask).
  • Choose the right cosmetics . It is important to choose the most appropriate cosmetic for your skin type. A cream for oily skin should combat sebum overproduction, deeply moisturize, fight bacterial proliferation and promote pore closure.
  • Protect your skin from the sun . Before sun exposure, it is always recommended to apply a generous layer of sun protection. The skin, in fact, reacts to UV radiation increasing its thickness, thus facilitating the formation of comedones (white / black spots).
  • Adopt a healthy and balanced diet . We have seen that an unbalanced diet can aggravate the problem of oily skin. For this purpose, it is advisable to limit the consumption of animal fats, alcohol and refined sugars, in favor of fish, white meats, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Online is available Collistar sorbet cream, a type of high-tech cream made with natural ingredients made in Italy, with a surprisingly light and melting texture.

The product's strong point is an active ingredient extracted from Fomes officinalis which has a dual function: it hydrates and at the same time refines and smoothes the skin's texture, minimizing enlarged pores and giving perfection to the face.

The excess of oiliness and the other typical imperfections of mixed and oily skins are kept under control by vitamins F and B6 with recognized sebum-regulating properties which, acting in combination with azeloglycine, an astringent and dermo-purifying principle, normalize sebaceous secretions and contribute to rebalance the skin hydrolipidic film. The matting and satin effect is ensured by special powders that absorb excess sebum.

The presence of the C + E vitamin complex, the antioxidant combination par excellence, prevents the formation of free radicals and skin aging. Everything is enhanced by the blackcurrant extract from Tuscany, particularly valuable for oily skins because it is rich in flavonoids and tannins, substances with soothing and astringent properties.

For cleansing, however, you can opt for a cleanser for oily skin, which removes up to 60% of excess sebum without drying or irritating the skin. The product in fact produces a delicate foam, which leaves the skin clean, without irritating residues.

Suitable for boys and adults with mixed skin, oily or with imperfections, this cleanser is effective for deep cleansing of the skin. The non-irritating formula is designed to remove surface oils, dirt and make-up without leaving the feeling of tight or too dry skin.

What you should not do

  • To attack the skin . An oily skin must not be overfed, but not even attacked with too irritating cosmetic products. Many commercial soaps dry the skin and it is known that the sebaceous glands react to the insult by increasing the production of sebum (typical rebound effect). It is therefore better to focus on specific products for oily skin, which generally have a relatively low pH (4.5-5.5) and contain low concentration fruit acids (with moisturizing properties).
  • Carry out too frequent washing . To avoid worsening the appearance of oily skin, the advice is to avoid too frequent washing (no more than 2-3 per day).

It is well known, in fact, that too frequent washing - as well as the aggressive cleansing mentioned above - cause the lipid components of the hydrolipidic film covering the skin to decrease. Because of this phenomenon, therefore, the sebaceous glands react by increasing the production of sebum, which results in the inevitable deterioration of the clinical picture of oily skin.

At the same time, however, it is important to point out that washings must not be too thin (less than one per day).

  • Use products without rinsing . Oily skin (as well as mixed skin) does not like the so-called "non-rinse cleansers": in fact, the prolonged permanence of these substances on the skin worsens the disorder because it clogs the follicle.
  • Smoking . Smoke, both active and passive, is an enemy of the skin because, by adhering to the superficial epidermal layers, it makes it more oily and greasy. For the same reason, it is advisable to avoid excessively polluted environments.
