Indications ECOREX ® Econazole

ECOREX ® is indicated for the treatment of vaginal tract infections sustained by microorganisms sensitive to? Econazole.

Mechanism of action ECOREX ® Econazole

ECOREX ® is a drug widely used in gynecology due to its wide-ranging direct action against yeasts, molds, dermatophytes and Gram-negative bacteria, which makes it an effective product even in cases of flora-borne infections mixed.

The therapeutic activity is due to the ability of Econazole, taken topically, to permeate cell membranes, concentrating inside the micro-organism in quantities such as to alter its metabolic processes.

More precisely, this active ingredient, like the other imidazole derivatives, is able to inhibit the enzyme 14 alpha sterol dimethylase, reducing the production of ergosterol, a key element of the cellular plasma membrane and determining the accumulation of other metabolites intermediates, whose presence, interfering with the cell's energy transport systems, induces an overall reduction in the vital capacity of the microorganism.

The whole mechanism, above all thanks to the topical use of the drug, is generally achieved without clinically relevant side effects, due to the low systemic absorption of the product.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

THE ECONAZOLE IN VAGINAL CANDIDOSIS

Int J Gynaecol Obstet. 2000 Dec; 71 Suppl 1: S47-52.

Work demonstrating that even the single administration of Econazole can have effective therapeutic effects during vaginal candidiasis, without clinically relevant side effects.

ECONAZOLE AND ACTIVITY? OSTEORIORISING

Arch Pharm Res. 2011 Jun; 34 (6): 1007-13.

Experimental study conducted on cell lines that demonstrates a new property of? ™ Econazole, able to reduce osteoclastic activity, thus controlling the mechanisms of bone resorption, through the direct action on intracellular signal pathways.

THE? ECONAZOLO AS A PRECURSOR OF ACTIVE ANTITUBERCULAR PRINCIPLES

Bioorg Med Chem Lett. 2012 Nov 15; 22 (22): 6844-7.

Very interesting pharmacokinetic study, which demonstrates how starting from the? Econazole structure it is possible to obtain active ingredients with a marked antimycobacterial activity, therefore usable in the treatment of tuberculosis infections.

Method of use and dosage

ECOREX ®

0.1% Econazole vaginal lavender;

150 mg vaginal ovules of Econazole.

In principle, we recommend taking an egg a day, for three consecutive days, deeply into the vagina.

Lavender instead is generally recommended as a prophylactic aid for oral or vaginal therapies with antifungals.

Warnings ECOREX ® Econazole

Despite the absence of clinically relevant side effects following the use of ECOREX ®, it is advisable to consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

The presence of excipients with allergenic power could determine the appearance of local reactions from hypersensitivity to the product.

It is recommended to keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The absence of clinical trials able to characterize the safety profile of the drug for fetal health limits the use of ECOREX ® during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding.

It is therefore recommended, in the above cases, to consult your gynecologist.

Interactions

No clinically relevant drug interactions are currently known.

Contraindications ECOREX ® Econazole

ECOREX ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients.

Undesirable effects - Side effects
