Indications BIOCHETASI ® Sodium citrate and potassium citrate

BIOCHETASI ® is used in the treatment of gastric hyperacidity, dyspepsias, digestive difficulties and gravid nausea, as well as ketonemic states.

Mechanism of action BIOCHETASI ® Sodium citrate and potassium citrate

BIOCHETASI ® represents a complex compound, characterized by the presence of different active ingredients, characterized by pleiotropic effects and therefore involved in the rebalancing of the health of the gastro-intestinal tract.

The particular formulation of the medicine, in fact allows both to buffer the gastric acidity thanks to the presence of sodium and potassium citrate, which behave like salts derived from citric acid, and to optimize the metabolism of the various nutrients, thanks to the presence of thiamine diphosphate, riboflavin and vitamin B6.

The antacid, detoxifying and pro-energetic action of BIOCHETASI ® is therefore useful in the treatment of all those manifestations characterized by alterations in the state of health of the gastro-intestinal tract, during fever or prolonged fasts.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. SODIUM CITRATE AND METABOLIC ACIDOSIS

Metabolic acidosis often accompanies reduced renal function, with increased secretion of endothelin, which negatively affects the development of arterial hypertension. Treatment with sodium citrate has been shown to be useful in reducing blood pressure and endothelin concentrations, significantly improving glomerular filtration rates.

2. CITRATE SALTS AND CALCULATIONS

Citrate salts, the main constituents of BIOCHETASI, have also been used for decades in the treatment of nephrolithiasis and the formation of calcium salts. Potassium citrate, in fact, has proved useful in preventing the formation of new stones, significantly reducing the risk of painful colic.

3. SODIUM CITRATE AND TAMPONANTE ACTION

One of the main roles of the biochetase is to buffer the gastric acidity, avoiding that the gastric contents reach particularly lower concentrations than the physiological ones. In this study conducted on 10 patients it was noted that sodium citrate, the main component of the biochetase, can guarantee a pH control, exerting a prolonged buffer action even for several hours.

Method of use and dosage

BIOCHETASI ® effervescent granules and effervescent tablets of 425 mg of sodium citrate, 50 mg of potassium citrate, 50 mg of thiamine free ester phosphate, 25.0 mg of riboflavin 5-monosodium monophosphate, 12.5 mg of vitamin B6 hydrochloride and 100.0 mg of citric acid:

the recommended dosage is two sachets or two effervescent tablets taken 3 times a day with half a glass of water.

Doses in children are generally halved.

Warnings BIOCHETASI ® Sodium citrate and potassium citrate

BIOCHETASI ® contains among its excipients saccharose, fructose and glucose, therefore it could be associated with the appearance of gastro-intestinal problems if taken in patients suffering from glucose / galactose and fructose malabsorption, or sucrase enzyme deficiency.

The presence of sugars in the medicine must also be considered in patients suffering from diabetes or undergoing a low-calorie diet.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

There are currently no studies showing the presence of side effects on the health of the fetus, induced by BIOCHETASI ® when taken during pregnancy.

Therefore this medicine can be taken in moderation during pregnancy and lactation, always under strict medical supervision.

Interactions

At the moment, the scientific literature does not highlight significant interactions from the pharmacokinetic and clinical point of view between BIOCHETASI ® of other active ingredients.
