REDOXON ® is a drug used in the treatment of vitamin C deficiencies or in case of increased need.
Mechanism of action REDOXON ® - Ascorbic acid
REDOXON ® is a drug based on vitamin C, an essential element for the correct development and differentiation of the human organism.
Taken with the diet, mainly through foods of vegetable origin, it is already absorbed at the level of the oral mucosa and more intensely at the level of the intestinal one, through a diffusion mechanism facilitated by the sodium.
Distributed to the various tissues, it is included in:
- Collagen synthesis, a fundamental protein in the structuring of the extracellular matrix of the various connective tissues;
- Antioxidant response, intervening both directly in detoxification systems and allowing regeneration of other elements such as vitamin E;
- Synthesis of carnitine, amino acid derivative necessary to ensure the correct use of fats for energy purposes;
- Synthesis of steroid hormones and catecholamines, useful in safeguarding the endocrine and metabolic homeostasis of the organism.
Marked deficiency states of this vitamin are therefore responsible for serious symptoms, which can seriously compromise the patient's health.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
1. THE ANTIOXIDANT EFFECTS OF VITAMIN C
Important study that enhances the antioxidant effects of vitamin C, describing the preventive action against damage to caricol DNA induced by reactive oxygen species.
2. VITAMIN EC WELL-BEING
Interesting work that shows how the intake of trace elements such as zinc and vitamins such as ascorbic acid, can be important in supporting the immune response and health status in children
3. VITAMIN C AND PHYSICAL EXERCISE
Study conducted on competitive athletes, basketball players, who showed how the intake of vitamin C together with that of vitamin E could reduce the oxidative insult exercised by intense physical activity, thus also collaborating in the prevention of muscle and tendon injuries.
Method of use and dosage
REDOXON ®
Effervescent and chewable tablets in various flavors from 500 mg to 1000 mg of ascorbic acid:
the treatment of the deficiency states of ascorbic acid generally involves the intake of 1 gr of vitamin C per day.
In the event that effervescent tablets should be used, it is advisable to drink the preparation immediately after preparation.
More important dosages could be prescribed by the doctor for the treatment of acute pathological conditions.
Warnings REDOXON ® - Ascorbic Acid
The intake of vitamin C, especially when it lasts for a long time, could increase the formation of oxalates, thus increasing the risk of uro and nephrolithiasis, especially in patients with impaired renal function.
Consequently, particular caution should be exercised in the administration of REDOXON ® to patients suffering from kidney stones, G6PD deficiency, thalassemia and other erythrocytic diseases.
REDOXON ® contains sucrose, therefore its intake should take place under medical supervision in patients suffering from diabetes or glucose / fructose malabsorption syndromes
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
REDOXON ® could be used during pregnancy to compensate for the increased need for this vitamin present during the gestational and breastfeeding period.
In any case the use of this medicine during this period should be supervised by your doctor.
Interactions
Although the pharmacokinetic characteristics of vitamin C are easily modulated by other active ingredients, at present there are no known interactions such as to cause particular concern from the clinical point of view.
Contraindications REDOXON ® - Ascorbic acid
REDOXON ® is contraindicated in patients suffering from gastrointestinal or hypersensitive disorders of the active substance or one of its excipients.
Undesirable effects - Side effects
Ascorbic acid intake, when performed according to medical indications, is practically free of clinically relevant side effects.
On the contrary, the abuse or prolonged administration over time could lead to an increased risk of developing gastro-intestinal disorders such as nausea and vomiting and an increased risk of uro and nephrolithiasis, especially in patients predisposed or suffering from renal failure.
