It is now dated, but not entirely known.
On Thursday 18 July 2013, in Wilbraham, (Massachusetts - USA), the "Friendly Ice Cream" (Limited Liability Company), for its 78th birthday and on the occasion of the "ice cream month", gave rise to a public event in attempt to break the world record for the largest "Ice Cream Dessert Party" ever organized.
The project played a predominantly symbolic meaning, addressed to the period of the Great Depression, when ice cream was served to socially support the population struck by an unprecedented economic hardship.
To break the record, at least 741 people were needed, who had to eat at least one scoop of ice cream in a maximum period of 15 minutes. Furthermore, the proposal had to be of three or more different tastes.
During the attempt, guests were able to choose from three varieties of ice cream, including: the Original Fudge Sundae, the Ice Cream Cake Sundae and the Caramel Cream Sundae. The guests were dressed in bright red t-shirts, signed "Friendly's", with white inscriptions mentioning "We Did It". A total of 794 people participated in the event (which took place at the "Boston Road offices"), which allowed the company to beat the record.
The president and managing director of "Friendly Ice Cream", John Maguire, said: "78 years ago the Friendly brand was founded to serve high quality ice cream; what we got here today, with the Guinness wr, is a confirmation clear of our success. I am extremely proud of the fact that we have created the world's largest Ice Cream Dessert with "Friendly".
The previous world record was 740 people, organized by "Physicians Mutual" (n Omaha, Nebraska, USA), on August 3, 2012. The desserts were made by "Treat America Food Services" and included lemon meringue cakes, biscuits, cream puffs and drowned with strawberries.
The Guinness World Record has also recognized the world record for the largest Dessert Party held in multiple locations. This involved 6, 997 participants; was organized by the "Tanger Outlets" and was held simultaneously in 34 locations spread across 22 US states, on 12 May 2011. Various desserts were served such as: biscuits, cupcakes, cream cakes, brownies and red velvet cake.
