Indications WARTEC ® Podophyllotoxin

WARTEC ® is indicated for the treatment of external sharp condylomata.

Mechanism of action WARTEC ® Podophyllotoxin

The therapeutic efficacy of WARTEC ® is evidently associated with its active ingredient Podophyllotoxin, a plant-derived molecule obtained from Podophyllin with antimitotic and cytolytic activity.

Despite the mechanism of action, not yet fully characterized, Podophyllotissin seems to interact directly with the tubulin units, preventing the polymerization of microtubules and thus causing a blockage of the mitotic apparatus and the consequent inhibition of cell proliferation.

The aforementioned events guarantee adequate control of the proliferative process of HPV-infected cells and the consequent rapid remission of the manifest lesion.

All this correlates to advantageous pharmacokinetic properties which, by considerably limiting the systemic absorption of the drug, significantly reduce the potential side effects of WARTEC ® therapy.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

ANTIMITOTIC EFFECTIVENESS OF PODOPHILLOTOSSIN

Eur J Med Chem. 2013 Jul 27; 68C: 47-57. doi: 10.1016 / j.ejmech.2013.07.007. [Epub ahead of print]

Experimental study that tries to characterize the mechanism of action of Podophyllotoxin highlighting the ability to inhibit the proper formation of microtubules in glioma cell cultures.

PODOPHYLLOXINE AS AN ANTICANCER POTENTIAL

J Asian Nat Prod Res. 2013 Jul 16. [Epub ahead of print]

Experimental studies that evaluate the effectiveness of Podophyllotoxin in inhibiting the growth of human tumor cell cultures, normally resistant to other cytotoxic drugs.

PODOPHYLLOXINE IN THE SYNTHESIS OF ANTI-CANCER PRODUCTS

Bioorg Med Chem Lett. 2013 Jul 1; 23 (13): 3780-4. doi: 10.1016 / j.bmcl.2013.04.089. Epub 2013 May 9.

Study aimed at obtaining new and effective chemotherapeutic drugs that can associate the classical cytotoxic activity with the antiproliferative one as observed for Podophyllotoxin. All the results of today, still in an experimental phase, seem to support the use of this active ingredient in the fight against tumors.

Method of use and dosage

WARTEC ®

Podofillotoxin 1.5 mg cream per gr of product.

The correct therapeutic approach involves applying the appropriate amount of cream directly on the region to be treated 2 times a day for 3 days consecutively, taking care to repeat this application for at least 4 weeks.

All this must clearly take place after medical prescription.

WARTEC ® Podophyllotoxin warnings

Therapy with WARTEC ® should be preceded by a careful medical examination aimed at clarifying the infectious origin of the lesions and adequately informing the patient regarding compliance with the sanitary regulations to be followed to optimize the effectiveness of the therapy.

Given the cytolytic power of Podophyllotoxin, it is recommended to apply the appropriate amount of cream exclusively on the lesion, taking care to avoid application to intact skin and to thoroughly cleanse the hands after each application.

Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Contraindications should also be extended to pregnancy and subsequent breastfeeding, given the strongly irritative and cytolytic power of Podophyllotoxin.

Interactions

The patient receiving WARTEC ® should avoid the simultaneous intake of other Podofillin-based drugs.

Contraindications WARTEC ® Podophyllotoxin

The use of WARTEC ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients, during pregnancy and during lactation and in small patients in pediatric age.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Treatment with WARTEC ® may expose the patient to side effects such as: local irritation, tenderness, erythema and small ulcerations.

Note

WARTEC ® is a prescription-only drug.
