Tribulus Terrestris - a plant known to the ancients, used for its tonic and energizing characteristics in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. It belongs to the Zygophyllaceae family, of Asian origin, and consists of alkaloids, flavonoids, starches and saponins. The latter seem to be responsible for the effect so sought after by the various athletes: the anabolic effect. Indeed, it has been possible to characterize, through liquid chromatography techniques, the active principle of this plant, today known as protodioscina. More careful evaluations have determined the content of this saponin in the various parts of the plant, with the following results:

  1. Leaves: 1.3% Protodioscin
  2. Stem: 0.27% Protodioscin
  3. Fruit: 0.24% protodioscin.

These studies were accompanied by others, concerning the pharmacokinetics and the biological role. To mention is the study that brought this plant to the fore, in which it was shown how the administration of this element was able to increase the levels of testosterone, LH and DHEA, with a clear improvement in spermatogenesis and an increase in the frequency of coupling in laboratory guinea pigs. Still on animals, the potent vasodilating action induced by the increased release of nitric oxide was also observed, while on cell cultures the potential antineoplastic and protective effect is being evaluated. Preliminary studies on the pharmacokinetics of this element have shown that 2/4% of the oral dose can be eliminated through the urine, while there are no data on the methods of absorption and biodistribution.

Rationale - Tribulus LH 80/20 XS- Natroid

The aforementioned study paved the way for the use of this product in sports. Numerous athletes, in fact, use tribulus terrestris in the hope of reproducing the same results obtained for animal guinea pigs, and supporting the organism's anabolic abilities or minimizing the side effects of doping with anabolic steroid hormones, improving spermatogenesis and endogenous testosterone production.

However the scientific world seems to agree on the ineffectiveness of this product on man, and in particular on the athlete, since several independent studies have recorded the total absence of anabolic, ergogenic and partition effects, both following acute and chronic administration, of different doses of tribulus terrestris.

Product features - Tribulus LH 80/20 XS- Natroid

Unfortunately, although an effective and standardized titration method is present, the product in question does not have a defined protodioscin concentration. This is a limitation, since the titration of saponins is not sufficient to assess the quality of the product, since the plant has a series of saponins which, in addition to having a different function from protodioscin, seem to be able to limit absorption.

Recommended use by the company - Tribulus LH 80/20 XS- Natroid

Swallow one capsule twice a day

Use in sports - Tribulus LH 80/20 XS- Natroid

As can be deduced from the previous reading, today there are no studies showing the efficacy of tribulus terrestris in sports supplementation.

Dosages of 450 mg / day and 3.21, 10 or 20 mg / kg / day, are in fact ineffective results from all points of view, both in acute and in chronic supplementation.

Add to this the absence of pharmacokinetic studies and toxicity data, it becomes rather difficult to formulate an integrative protocol or suggest an effective dosage.

Side effects Tribulus LH 80/20 XS- Natroid

Fortunately, the side effects also seem to be insignificant, although there have been cases of abdominal pain. To be documented is a study that reported the presence of gynecomastia following the chronic use of tribulus terrestris.

Interactions Tribulus LH 80/20 XS- Natroid

Although the pharmacokinetics of this product is not characterized, it is known that saponins can interfere with the absorption of different substances, significantly changing their bioavailability.

Among the typical effects of saponins in general we can remember the expectorant, mediated by an irritant action on the mucosa, cholesterol-lowering, anti-edema and anti-inflammatory.

Precautions for use Tribulus LH 80/20 XS- Natroid

The product is contraindicated in cases of renal or hepatic disease, cardiovascular disease and / or hypertension, during pregnancy, during lactation and under 14 years.
