Upper posterior tooth

The superior posterior dentate muscle originates from the inferior tract of the nuchal ligament, from the supraspinatus ligament and from the spinous processes of the 7th cervical vertebra and of the first three thoracic vertebrae. It is inserted with 4 tendon digits at the upper margin and the external face of the 2nd-5th coast.

Covered by the rhomboid, trapezium and scapula elevator, it stands superficially on the splenius, ileocostal, very long back and intercostal muscles.

With its action it elevates the ribs (inspiratory muscle) with an opposite action with respect to the inferior posterior dentate muscle.

It is innervated by branches of the intercostal nerves (T1-T4) and a branch of the brachial plexus (C5)

It originates from the apex of the spinous processes of the 7th cervical vertebra. The muscular belly is divided into four digits that are fixed at the upper edge of the ribs ranging from the 2nd to the 5th. It works by elevating the coasts.
