Indications CAREXIDIL ® Minoxidil

CAREXIDIL ® is indicated for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.

Mechanism of action CAREXIDIL ® Minoxidil

CAREXIDIL ® is a medicinal product based on Minoxidil, an active ingredient that has always been used orally in cardiology in the treatment of severe hypertension, and has been widespread in dermatology for some time now due to its anti-hair loss properties.

The molecular mechanism of action, evidently based on the ability of the active principle to increase the permeability of the ATP potassium channels dependent on the smooth muscle cells of the vessel, causing a significant vasodilation, could partly justify its advantageous anti-hair loss properties, restoring a correct vascularization at the level of the scalp necessary to tropically supply the keratinocytes thus supporting the correct growth of the hair.

These properties, carried out only during the treatment, regress in a few weeks from the suspension of therapy, also considering the very low systemic absorption of the active ingredient which nevertheless contributes to the good tolerability of the drug.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF CAREXIDIL

G Ital Dermatol Venereol. 2011 Dec; 146 (6 Suppl 1): 1-8.

Recent Italian clinical trial that confirms the results in the literature highlighting the clinical efficacy of Carexidil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia both male and female, with appreciable results in six months of treatment.

MINOXIDIL AND TEMPORAL TRIANGULAR ALOPECIA

Ann Dermatol. 2013 Aug; 25 (3): 387-8. doi: 10.5021 / ad.2013.25.3.387. Epub 2013 Aug 13.

Very interesting study that reports the effectiveness of topical Minoxidil in the treatment of triangular temporal alopecia in small patients in pediatric age.

SAFETY OF USE OF MINOXIDIL

Recent Pat Inflamm Allergy Drug Discov. 2012 May; 6 (2): 130-6.

Interesting study that collects both the biological effects of Minoxidil and the potential side effects mostly related to hypersensitivity reactions to excipients such as propylene glycol especially in galenic preparations, such as to minimize the therapeutic effects of the active ingredient.

Method of use and dosage

CAREXIDIL ®

50 mg cutaneous solution of Minoxidil per ml of solution.

The definition of the dosing schedule and its dosage should be defined by the dermatologist who is an expert in the treatment of baldness.

In principle we recommend the maximum application of 2 ml per day to be divided into two different applications directly on the affected scalp area.

In order to register the first blessings it would be necessary to extend the therapy for at least 3-4 months.

CAREXIDIL ® Minoxidil warnings

CAREXIDIL ® therapy should necessarily be supervised by a careful medical examination to assess the possible presence of risk factors incompatible with the treatment such as arterial hypotension, heart disease, edema and dermatological diseases of the scalp.

At the same time, the patient should comply with a series of hygiene and health regulations designed to avoid the dispersion of the drug in the environment and therefore to limit the incidence of potential side effects.

It is recommended to keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The aforementioned contraindications to the use of CAREXIDIL ® also extend to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding, given the absence of clinical trials able to characterize the safety profile of the drug for the health of the fetus and infant.

Interactions

Despite the low systemic absorption of the drug it would be useful to consider the potential vasodilator effect of Minoxidil especially when taken in patients contextually subjected to antihypertensive therapy, potentially responsible for orthostatic hypotension.

It is also recommended to avoid the application of CAREXIDIL ® together with that of other dermatological preparations.

Contraindications CAREXIDIL ® Minoxidil

The use of CAREXIDIL ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients, in patients suffering from coronary heart disease, arrhythmias and heart disease in general.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Treatment with CAREXIDIL ® exposes the patient in therapy to the risk of local adverse reactions characterized by desquamation, burning, dermatitis, itching, skin rash and hypertrichosis.

The side effects worthy of note are decidedly more rare.

Note

CAREXIDIL ® is a prescription-only drug.
