Indications BENZAC ® Benzoyl Peroxide

BENZAC® is used both in skin disinfection and in acne treatment due to its antiseptic activity in the propionibacterium acnes.

Mechanism of action BENZAC ® Benzoyl peroxide

BENZAC® is a drug based on benzoyl peroxide, an active ingredient used in various clinical fields including dermatology, in which it plays an important anti-acne role.

The therapeutic activity of this active principle, in the treatment of acne, is due to the antiseptic activity effective against Propionibacetrium acnes, a pathogenic element able to colonize the sebaceous gland, favoring the onset and subsequent inflammation of the skin lesion acne.

However, the exfoliating and keratolytic activity is also associated with antibiotic activity, which is important in rebalancing the skin microenvironment by protecting the skin from subsequent colonization and the consequent formation of inflamed and painful comedones.

The topical use of the drug fortunately limits the side effects of systemic therapy, thus increasing the tolerability and therefore the effectiveness of the treatment.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

TREATMENT OF ACNE IN PREGNANCY

Drugs. 2013 Jun; 73 (8): 779-87. doi: 10.1007 / s40265-013-0060-0.

Interesting study that evaluates the best possible treatment for acne during pregnancy.

Despite most of the active ingredients normally used also topically, they are contraindicated in the above conditions, bezoyl peroxide seems to be among the least harmful and therefore the safest ones.

CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF COMBINED THERAPIES

J Drugs Dermatol. 2013 Mar; 12 (3): 277-82.

Study that shows how the combined treatment with benzoyl peroxide can significantly improve the efficacy of the therapy itself, in just 12 weeks, compared to the monotherapy with tretinoin.

BENZOYL PEROXIDE AND FLAMMED LESIONS

J Cosmet Sci. 2013 Jan-Feb; 64 (1): 1-8.

Work that shows how the application of benzoyl peroxide can reduce the number of inflamed and non-inflamed lesions in patients suffering from acne in just six weeks of treatment.
