Facial Tonic

Generality

The tonic is a cosmetic solution based on water or hydro-alcohol, usually intended for use after daily cleansing of the face.

The use of this cosmetic is complementary to that of cleansing milk, as it allows the removal of the last residues and facilitates the removal of dirt particles (sebum, impurities and make-up) from the skin surface.

For the application of the tonic, just moisten a cotton pad with a small amount of product, then tap it all over the face, without rubbing. The result is a pleasantly fresh, luminous and compact skin.

What is it for?

Used after daily face cleansing, the tonic removes the last residues of cleansing milk and excess oiliness.

At the same time, this product has a stimulating and astringent action : regular use of the tonic helps strengthen the skin's natural defenses and prevents the appearance of skin blemishes. In fact, the tonic helps purify the epidermis and reduce pores on the face.

Its refreshing, softening and decongestant action is also useful in treating reddened and sensitive skin.

The tonic for the face also has the important function of keeping the moisture level of the skin unchanged, essential so that it always remains hydrated, soft and compact. Finally, this cosmetic makes the skin more receptive to the subsequent phases of the treatment, that is to the application of the serum or of the day-night cream suited to its needs.

How does it work?

The tonic is a product that is combined with a real detergent, in order to complete the daily cleaning of the face and restore the physiological skin pH.

Its formulation is typically water based or hydroalcoholic . To this solution, soothing, moisturizing, astringent or purifying ingredients are added. These components make it possible to bring numerous benefits to the areas treated and to adapt the beauty routine to your skin type.

Tonics can be divided into:

  • Alcoholic : these formulations were widespread especially in the past, when it was difficult to effectively preserve an aqueous extract or easily dissolve essential oils.
  • Without alcohol : they are obtained mainly from the distilled waters of some plants or flowers, such as roses and witch hazel. The tonics can be formulated starting from solutions of vegetable extracts to which are added humectants and solubilizers, which make the application more pleasant.

There are also two- phase formulations, consisting of an aqueous and an oily part, which must be mixed at the time of use.

Tonic: how does it apply?

The use of the tonic must be combined with that of the cleansing milk and a make-up remover suitable for the area around the eyes, able to easily dissolve dirt particles, make-up residues and impurities.

For the correct cleansing of the face, just pour a small amount of cleansing milk on a cotton pad, then massage it onto the skin of the face with delicate circular motions.

The application of the following tonic is simple: it is sufficient to moisten a cotton pad with the product, then tap it on the previously cleaned area. In this way, the sensation of pleasant freshness typically given by the product will remain on the skin of the face.

During the use of the tonic it is necessary to be careful to avoid the eye contour and not to rub to avoid redness due to friction.

Once this beauty routine is finished, the skin must be rehydrated with a night or day cream, to reconstitute the hydro-lipid film that covers it and protects it as a barrier.
