Definition

Candida albicans is a fungus that normally lives in our intestines, in the oral cavity and in the vagina. In particular surrounding (use of antibiotics and corticosteroids, moisture, skin maceration, debilitating diseases, diabetes mellitus) the overgrowth of this microorganism takes on pathological significance, causing an affection - known as candidiasis - that can affect the vagina (vulvovaginitis), the hollow oral (thrush) or skin (especially in skin folds and around nails).
