Indications VITAN ® Retinol

VITAN® is indicated as an adjunct in the treatment of corneal lesions, blepharitis, keratoconjunctivitis, keratitis and corneal ulcers.

Mechanism of action VITAN ® Retinol

VITAN® is a drug based on Retinol, more commonly known as vitamin A, an important factor in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation, especially for epithelial cells.

Its mechanism of action, characterized by the ability to adequately regulate the expression of transcription factors involved in the regulation of differentiation processes is today almost entirely clarified so as to associate to its local deficiencies pathological conditions such as dry eye, keratomalacia, lesions and corneal ulcers .

The role of vitamin A as an antioxidant is also fundamental, therefore important in preventing the damage caused by reactive oxygen species.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

VITAMIN A IN POST-OPERATION PHASES

Clin Ophthalmol. 2013; 7: 1913-1918. Epub 2013 Sep 24.

Recent study showing that topical supplementation with vitamin A does not seem to produce improvements in terms of re-epithelialization and post-operative pain regression following keratectomy.

LACK OF VITAMIN A and LOCAL EFFECTS

Doc Ophthalmol. 2013 Jul 31. [Epub ahead of print]

Diagnostic imaging study that studies the functional anatomical events related to vitamin A deficiency, demonstrating lesions both at the corneal and retinal level with dysfunction and accumulation of sub retinal deposits.

VITAMIN A AT HIGH DOSAGE

Public Health Nutr. 2013 Jun 17: 1-6. [Epub ahead of print]

Study demonstrating the resolution of a characteristic syndrome with supplementation with high doses of Vitamin A in Indian patients, thus extending the possible therapeutic indications to the use of vitamin A.
