Removal of a tattoo: factors to consider

Today, for the removal of a tattoo you can use different techniques developed by dermatologists and adapted for each patient. However, eliminating a design engraved on the skin is not always so easy. In fact, several factors that may affect the final result of the treatment must be taken into consideration.

In particular, when deciding to eliminate a tattoo that is no longer desired, attention must be paid to:

  • Size and location of the tattooed design .
  • Density and depth of the pigment : professional tattoos, performed with permanent pigments, are normally more difficult to remove due to the greater depth of the pigment and its high density.
  • Color - polychromy : blue and black are the easiest colors to eliminate, unlike white and yellow which are almost impossible to remove; it is also difficult to erase an elaborate design, made with more pigments.
  • Time of stay : if made recently, the tattoo is more difficult to remove due to the greater concentration of the pigment compared to an old one.
  • Phototype of the patient : if the skin is dark (olive or black), removal is more problematic; the risk is to alter the natural skin pigmentation.
  • Period of the year : the best time to consider the elimination of a tattoo is autumn-winter, since during the treatment and the following months the exposure of the treated skin to the sunlight must be avoided.
