E122 - AZORUBINE (or CARMOISINA) - (CI 14720)

Azorubin is a synthetic azo dye, red in color with bluish shades. It is used for coloring syrups, beverages, ice creams, marzipan, jellies, puddings, instant products, dark sauces, instant soups, packaged ice creams ...

Risks: hyperactivity, skin reactions due to allergic reactions, allergies, rhinitis, asthma, insomnia and edema; there is a risk that it may be carcinogenic and therefore it is not recommended.

According to some scientific research, the azorubin, together with another synthetic dye, the cochineal red A (E124), damages the adrenal cortex.

This dye is prohibited in Austria, Norway and Sweden. Australian consumer groups have included azorubine in the group of food-threatening food allergens, especially for asthmatic and aspirin-intolerant people.

ADI DOSE: 4 mg per kg of body weight
