E512 STUNNING CHLORIDE
Stannous chloride is a compound obtained from tin and hydrochloric acid minerals (also known as muriatic acid, is a solution of hydrochloric acid HCl and water). It comes in the form of colorless or white crystals and may have a slight odor of hydrochloric acid.
Soluble in ethanol, it is soluble in a quantity of water lower than its own weight, but with an excessive amount of water it forms an insoluble basic salt.
As a food additive, stannous chloride mainly has a stabilizing and antioxidant function.
Stannous chloride can be contained in various products, such as asparagus in cans and canned vegetables.
It may cause nausea and vomiting in high doses.
ADI DOSE: up to 2 mg per kg of body weight.
