Tingling in the Left Arm - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

The tingling in the left arm is a symptom that can manifest itself in different characters, such as numbness, soreness, a tingling sensation or loss of sensitivity. This manifestation can be caused by a wide variety of conditions.

First of all, the tingling in the left arm can depend on excessive efforts, repeated stresses during the day, staying in the same position for too long, postural defects and traumas (such as fractures and dislocations).

Osteoarthritis of the limb or spine (especially of the cervical tract), typically causes joint pain associated with stiffness and paresthesia; sometimes the patient is forced to perform some movements to relieve tingling in the upper limbs. The alteration of the sensitivity of the left arm also manifests itself in the presence of a herniated disc at the cervical level.

Furthermore, tingling in the limb may depend on pathologies that originate at the shoulder, as in the case of thoracic outlet syndrome and scapulohumeral periarthritis.

If located mainly at the level of the elbow, however, this symptom may be the result of inflammatory processes of the olecranon bag (bursitis), epicondylitis (or tennis elbow) and epitrocleite (or golfer's elbow),

In some cases, tingling in the left arm can signal peripheral circulatory disorders and central or peripheral neuropathies. The latter may be secondary to brachial plexus lesions, multiple sclerosis, infections (eg AIDS, shingles or Lyme disease), ischemia, ulnar nerve compressions, diabetes and autoimmune diseases.

The soreness in the left arm may indicate the presence of various systemic disorders, including vitamin deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, inactive or hypoactive thyroid, intoxications, side effects or interactions of some drugs, alcohol dependence and neoplastic processes (benign or malignant) ).

Occasionally, tingling in the left arm may occur in the case of myocardial infarction and transient ischemic attack (TIA), especially if the numbness also radiates to other parts of the body.

Tingling in the left arm can also occur during a hyperventilation syndrome triggered by a panic attack.
