Indications BROMOTIREN ® Dibromotiroisina

BROMOTIREN ® is used in the treatment of functional hyperthyroidisms, with the intent to restore the correct hormonal profile.

Mechanism of action BROMOTIREN ® Dibromotiroisina

Despite the excellent pharmacokinetic properties of dibromotirosina, which allow a rapid gastro-intestinal absorption with peaks reachable around the hour and which decrease after about 6 hours, BROMOTIREN ® is still little used in clinical practice.

Its therapeutic effect should be supported by the ability of dibromotirosina to compete with the iodination of tyrosines, in favor of bromination instead, thus reducing the active form of the hormone and its peripheral effects.

Furthermore, this active ingredient appears to maintain the ability to control TSH production through negative feed-back on the pituitary gland, reducing the biological activity of the thyroid.

In summary, the dual mechanism of action should reduce the production of thyroid hormones, guaranteeing a regression of the associated symptomatology.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. DIBROMOTIROSINA AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTION

Recent study that takes up an ancient effect of dibromotirosina, that related to inflammatory pathology. In fact, in this work the aforementioned active principle is used as a marker for assessing the degree of inflammation in patients suffering from allergic asthma.

2. DIBROMOTIROISINA: ANTITUMORAL ROLE

An extremely interesting study that demonstrates in vitro how dibromotirosina and analogous compounds can determine an inhibitory action on neoplastic proliferation, on the invasive and migrating capacity of prostate cancer cells.

3. DIBROMOTIROSINA IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

A dated study that lays the foundation for the therapeutic utility of dibromotirosina. This anti-thyroid drug has also been appreciated in the past for its immunoregulatory capacity, although its use in clinical practice is limited to what it is.

Method of use and dosage

BROMOTIREN ® dibromotirosina 300 mg tablets:

the dosage varies from patient to patient based on the relative physiopathological and clinical conditions.

In principle the dosage should be between 1 and 3 tablets per day.

Warnings BROMOTIREN ® Dibromotiroisina

Treatment with BROMOTIREN ® should be preceded and accompanied by periodic monitoring of blood concentrations of TSH and thyroid hormones, to assess the effectiveness of the therapy and the dosage used.

During treatment with antithyroid drugs it is important to check the hematological picture to avoid risks, even serious ones, for the health of the patient and if necessary suspend therapy.

Among the side effects associated with BROMOTIREN ® therapy, headache, dizziness and drowsiness could alter the patient's normal perceptive capacities, making it dangerous to use machinery and drive vehicles.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

BROMOTIREN ® as well as all the other antithyroid drugs marketed in Italy, is characterized by presenting a safety profile, when taken during pregnancy, of category D.

This profile is characterized by the potential risks to the health of the fetus despite the important benefits for the mother.

As a result, his intake should be carried out exclusively under strict medical supervision and after carefully evaluating the cost / benefit ratio.

The presence of the active ingredient in breast milk prevents it from being used during the breastfeeding period.

Interactions

Different pharmacokinetic studies have not shown any kind of clinically or pharmacologically noteworthy interaction sustained by the dibromotironina contained in BROMOTIREN ®

Contraindications BROMOTIREN ® Dibromotiroisina

The use of BROMOTIREN ® is contraindicated during the lactation period and in patients suffering from hypersensitivity to bromate or structurally related substances.

Undesirable effects - Side effects
