Three supplements ... and sweet dreams!

Edited by Alessandro De Vettor

Importance of sleep

We all know the importance of a good training program and a balanced diet, but we often forget that without adequate recovery hardly will there be improvements in strength and muscle mass gains.

A quality rest becomes therefore indispensable. Unfortunately, nowadays, the frenetic pace of life brings many people into a state of considerable psycho-physical stress; if we consider that we train, and for many periods even intensely, the situation can only get worse, and one of the many stress symptoms is "insomnia".

Sleep disorders, therefore, are increasingly common even among sportsmen. Unfortunately, not everyone responds well to homeopathic and / or herbal therapies, and the fact of taking drugs often does not prove to be a good solution for the risk / fear of developing dependence on active ingredients, as well as their intrinsic toxicity.

It is however interesting to know that a valid alternative exists! The synergistic combination of 3 supplements has proved to be very effective in inducing a deep and adequate night's rest, also favoring the increase of two fundamental anabolic hormones, such as GH and Testosterone.

Below are the three "sleep supplements" and their main features:

Phenibut

4-Amino-3 Phenyl Butanoic Acid (Phenibut)

It is a natural derivative of the known GABA (gamma-amino butyric acid). This substance binds to the same receptors as GABA, reproducing roughly the same sedative effect, thus promoting sleep. 4-amino-3phenyl butanoic acid also stimulates the body to a higher production of GABA itself; its properties in stimulating serum GH levels are also known.

This supplement is marketed in the USA (not legalized in Italy for its nootropic properties) and has been studied and used for many years in the medical field for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia disorders. (Dosage: 100-300 mg half an hour before going to sleep, on an empty stomach).

5-HTP

5-Hydroxy-Tryptophan for Sleeping

5-HTP is a modified version of the essential amino acid tryptophan and contributes to the endogenous synthesis of serotonin and melatonin, two hormones - neurotransmitters that induce relaxation and sleep. It can also promote increased levels of luteinizing hormone and GnRH in male subjects, and this induces a greater stimulus to testosterone secretion. (Dosage: 50-300 mg half an hour before going to sleep, on an empty stomach)

Theanine

Theanine against insomnia

This is also a modified version of an amino acid, glutamine, and is the main component of the calming effect of green tea. Theanine improves sleep quality and relaxation, increasing levels of GABA and serotonin and stimulating the function of brain alpha waves. (Dosage: 200-500 mg half an hour before going to sleep, on an empty stomach)
