Indications LENIL ® Clorexidina

Mechanism of action LENIL ® Chlorhexidine

Chlorhexidine, active ingredient of LENIL ®, is a biguanide molecule structurally characterized by the presence of positively charged residues and highly lipophilic groups, capable of interacting with high affinity with the cell membrane of different microorganisms.

In fact used topically, Chlorhexidine acts as a detergent of the plasma membrane, causing the formation of pores that alter the normal cellular network, resulting in the consequent loss of functionality of the enzymes involved in the metabolism of the microorganism.

At higher doses the same active principle is able to condense the intracellular environment, causing a total block of cellular activity and thus carrying out a relevant bactericidal action.

Different studies show how this antiseptic can be effective against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, but also against certain fungi and yeasts such as Candida albicans.

The efficacy of action and safety of use are further strengthened by the excellent pharmacokinetic properties that prevent topically applied chlorhexidine from being absorbed at the systemic level.
