What effects does systemic arterial hypertension have on the eyes?

High blood pressure can also impair eyesight over time . In fact, it damages the vessels that bring nourishment and oxygen to the eye, causing hypertensive retinopathy, as well as contributing to the appearance of glaucoma .

Hypertensive retinopathy is a disease characterized by a reduction in the size of the retinal arteries and dilation of the veins, which take a tortuous course. In more severe and advanced cases, the choroid has areas that are not sprayed and the optic nerve can be raised due to edema.

Hypertensive retinopathy can cause blurred and distorted vision. The retina, no longer nourished and sufficiently oxygenated, undergoes degeneration. The possible consequence of hypertensive retinopathy is therefore the complete loss of sight.
