E285 - Sodium tetraborate

Sodium tetraborate is a synthetic preservative considered to be quite dangerous, used in particular in caviar (sturgeon eggs).

At the moment, we do not know exactly the negative side effects it can cause. When taken in particularly high amounts, sodium tetraborate can cause: asthma, destruction of red blood cells, diarrhea, injury to internal organs, kidney damage, menstrual problems, hair loss and poisoning.
