The otolaryngologist is a specialized doctor-surgeon, expert in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders that can affect the ears, nasal cavities, throat and their connection points at the level of the face and neck.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
The name otolaryngologist - as well as otolaryngology - is the set of terms of Greek origin which means ear ("oto"), nose ("rino"), larynx ("laringo") and doctor ("iatra").

- Maxillofacial and reconstructive plastic surgery, which deals with operations of rhinoplasty, septoplasty, cleft lip, elimination of wrinkles and so on.
- Benign and malignant tumors of the neck and head, with particular attention to those arising at the level of: nose, mouth, throat, larynx, vocal cords and esophagus.
- Laryngology, which is the detailed study of all the possible problems of the larynx.
- Otology and neurotology, which together treat all the possible problems of the ears, from tumors to nerve conduction disorders.
- Pediatric otorhinolaryngology, that is relative to children.
- Rhinology, which specifically treats diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses.
