Herbal teas against diarrhea mainly exploit the astringent properties of tannin-rich herbs, and the gelling and emollient properties of pectin-rich drugs.
Apart from herbal teas, some natural remedies that are very useful in the presence of diarrhea are green banana (1-2 fruits), pectin (one spoon three times a day), boiled carrots (300-400 g per day) and apples with peel ( 4-5 apples a day).
Among the drugs rich in astringent tannins include acacia (bark), citrus (plant), argentina (leaves), cinquefoil (rhizomes), blueberry (fruits), wild blackberry (leaves), oak (bark) and tormentilla (rhizome). In herbal preparations, as adjuvants to the action of astringents, adsorbents can also be used, that is solid substances capable of attracting gas and fluids on their molecular surface; activated carbon is the most classic example (together with chitosan).
