Clear Feces - Causes and Symptoms

Related articles: Clear faeces

Definition

The very light colored stools are often due to a reduction in their content of bile pigments, which normally give the stools a more or less brown color.

Occasional production of light, yellowish or greyish stools can also be related to the abundant consumption of white or beige colored foods, such as rice or potatoes. This sign is frequently observed even when the intestinal transit is accelerated, as in the case of diarrhea and malabsorption syndromes. Even those who have been subjected to diagnostic tests involving the use of barium can eliminate hypochromic feces for a few days.

The persistence of faecal hypocolia, on the other hand, can be a sign of obstructive problems, which prevent the bile from reaching the intestine. Therefore, this symptom may be due to gall bladder stones, gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis), sclerosing cholangitis, biliary cirrhosis and neoplastic processes affecting the biliary system.

In other cases, hypochromic feces depend on hepatitis, liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. Other diseases that can be associated with clear stool elimination include pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, sickle cell anemia, infectious mononucleosis and cystic fibrosis.
