The more time you spend studying, the more risk of becoming myopic?

Research conducted at the University Medical Center in Mainz, Germany, and published in Ophtalmology, showed a correlation between the level of education and the risk of becoming myopic . Those who have spent more years at university, in fact, would be more likely to suffer from this common sight defect.

Myopia, therefore, is not only a consequence of a certain pattern of genes, but seems to be favored by environmental components, such as the hours spent reading and studying, playing with the computer or watching television. Encouraging students to spend more time outdoors, on the other hand, would have a protective effect and would delay the onset of the refractive defect.
