According to LARN (Reference Levels of Nutrients and Energy for the Italian Population), an adult's total lipid intake should not exceed 35% of daily calories.
Only 7-10% of the total calories should come from saturated fats.
In a 2200-calorie diet, therefore, lipids should not exceed 700 Kcal (equivalent to about 78 grams), while no more than 220 calories (about 24 grams) should be provided by saturated fats.
In subjects at risk - for example due to the presence of high levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood or of cardiovascular diseases - the average contribution with the
diet of saturated fatty acids should be lower (â ‰ ¤7%).
