Hydrophobia - Causes and Symptoms

Definition

Hydrophobia is a violent and painful spasm of the respiratory muscles (diaphragm and accessory respiratory muscles, pharyngeal and laryngeal), which occurs when ingested or trying to drink water or other liquids.

In humans, hydrophobia is a typical manifestation of anger.

The term is also used in psychology to indicate the homonymous phobic disorder; in this case, hydrophobia takes on a completely different meaning: it consists in fact in the anomalous and obsessive aversion to liquids, deep waters or swimming.
